Greek Week

Spring semester each year brings one of the largest events for the Georgia Tech’s Greek community. Greek Week is a time for fun and competition between all sororities and fraternities on campus. There are over twenty different events throughout the week where sororities show their competitive spirit and pride. Events range from the grueling Tug-of-War to the hilarious field events, such as the Dizzy Bat Race and the traditional Catapult Wars, where students get to show off their engineering skills. The grand finale of the week is Greek Sing where Greeks show off their talents by performing dancing and singing acts. Greek Week not only brings fun to participants, but the spectators as well. The Greek Week social events were created to foster interfraternal interaction while also reaching out to the non-Greeks on campus for a fun-filled, alcohol-free block party.

Greek Week field and pool events include Olympic-style and Greek-themed outdoor events such as arm wrestling, climbing Mt. Olympus (a.k.a. Freshman Hill), home-run derby, chariot race, egg toss, human pyramid, catapult wars, slam dunk contest, stampede, pool bail out, and other exciting events.

Greek Sing is a traditional Greek Week event, where each fraternity and sorority has an opportunity to create talent acts that are judged on originality/creativity, showmanship/crowd appeal, and talent. Unlike the lip-syncing acts of Mock Rock during Homecoming, this event features the true talents, (vocal, instrumental, and choreographic) of Greek men and women.

Tug-of-war (or tug) consists of a central pit approximately 8W x 10L x 8D filled with water with one tugging pit on each side. The two teams will line up on either side of the pit along the tug rope and attempt to pull the opposing tug team onto their side. Tug is divided into sorority and fraternity divisions.
