Philanthropy
What kinds of philanthropic activities are sororities involved in?

Philanthropy is a large part of Georgia Tech’s National Panhellenic sororities. All Georgia Tech sororities support their individual national philanthropies at the local level through many hours of volunteer work, community service, and fundraising. In addition, each sorority participates in many campus-wide community service projects to benefit the greater Atlanta area as well as the Georgia Tech community itself.
Throughout the year, the Greek system comes together for large scale philanthropy projects. During the first few weeks of school, the Greeks sponsor a school supply drive in which typical elementary school supplies and monetary donations are collected. These donations are given to local Atlanta schools to help children and teachers get the school year started off right.
For Homecoming week this past fall, both fraternities and sororities assisted with multiple projects in the community through the TEAM Buzz event. These projects ranged from painting schools and planting flowers to cutting down kudzu and repairing a local park. In addition, the Greeks at Georgia Tech have begun a Halloween philanthropy called Run āNā Hide for nearby children which gives young children a safe place to trick-or-treat. Various Greek houses pass out candy, play games, and even sponsor a haunted house. This past year over 80 children participated in Tech’s Run ‘N’ Hide event and there are plans to increase this number this coming October.
In the spring, Greeks pulled together to participate in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life during Greek Week. The Greek community raised over $43,000 towards Cancer research. At Georgia Tech, Greeks feel it is important to contribute their time and efforts to their communities. Not only do these programs benefit those in need and the community, but those participating as well.
